About chalk
I'm Garv Nanwani. I'm a tech lead at BetaTest Solutions, and I build and run chalk on my own.
Why it exists
Most hard ideas get taught as a word and a definition. Cache, consensus, backpressure, compound interest. You can repeat the word and still not see why it matters, or what happens when it goes wrong.
chalk is my answer to that: hard ideas you can run. Each idea starts as one drawing with a short story around it, and the jargon comes after. Where an idea has a dial worth moving, there is a lab where you move it and watch what holds and what breaks. The questions at the end of each lesson come back days later, so it sticks.
It started as the boards I kept while learning these subjects myself. Today it holds 617 lessons across 18 tracks, 92 labs and 219 videos: system design, AI, networking, databases, finance, game theory, algorithms and more, each starting from zero.
How it is made
chalk is made with the help of AI tools. I decide what each track covers, the order it is taught in and how each idea is explained, and I review the material before it goes up. The voice in the videos is a synthetic one. The terms say more.
A mistake can still slip through. If you find one, email hello@chalkbrain.com and I will fix it.
