The short chains
Every find walks a chain of houses up to the root. In the worst order, how long can that chain get, and what keeps it short?
Thirty-two houses each record one house they report to, and the root names the group. Cables arrive in the worst order for the habits in play, and each one merges two groups. The bars show every house's distance from its root; the panels count find steps and notebook entries changed.
