Before you start. When an app answers you with AI, it is sending your text over the internet to a machine somebody else owns and paying that owner for the reply. This story is about the company that sits in the middle of that trip.

The idea in 30 seconds

An open model is identical from every seller, so only price, speed and uptime are left to compete on. Markets like that grow an exchange.
One shared way of asking crowns one maker’s format and loses the ten percent that is anyone’s speciality.
Always-cheapest destroys the cheapest, so the router drops whoever broke in the last thirty seconds and spreads the rest by one over price squared.
A reply arrives in pieces and its bill arrives last, so the middle passes bytes through untouched while eavesdropping on its own pipe. You cannot count the tokens yourself: every ruler differs and the biggest quantities are hidden.
The fee sits on money entering, not tokens moving, and the uncopyable part is the neutral seat that sees every order.
