Is Death Bad for the One Who Dies?

The self as a chain of connected moments, a ship rebuilt plank by plank. This lesson asks what happens at the end of the chain, and whether that end can be bad for the person whose chain it is, given that they are not there to feel it.
Before you start. Free Will, Identity & the Self asked what makes you the same person over time, and settled on a chain of memories and character that thins out over the years, with no single hidden “you” underneath. This lesson takes that chain and asks two calmer, older questions about it: is its ending a harm to you, and what makes the stretch before the ending go well?
